Christian
Do you consider yourself a Christian?
I always did.
For most of my life if asked I would respond, yes, I am a Christian. Never really understanding why I would give that response, but I did every time. I was baptized when I was in the 7th grade in a Baptist church. I did go to Sunday school and attended church. I did it because my mother forced that issue. But, I did not listen much because I was always wanting to be somewhere else. Why do I bring this up? Because, now in thinking about it, I always knew right from wrong. Why? Because I believe God prints the basics on our heart. A starting point to righteousness. Then we have the job to complete our schooling to find out what God’s will is for us.
How many of us, once we our out of high school, actually picks up the Bible and read it, or even before we got out of school. I did not until about eight years ago. I attended church sometimes but would not take the time to open the Bible and read God’s word. I simply thought that the man giving the sermon would teach me right. He would never have any other agenda except God’s.
Well, I finally got my mind straight and started to realize that a relationship with God is an individual thing– one on one– not a group or community thing. God is looking for each one of us to come to Him on our own. So in order to come to God and become more like Jesus, do you not think that we should read His word ourselves. This does not mean to not go to church and listen to the sermon, but do you not think you would get so much more out of it if you knew what was being said. Besides do you not think that someone that preaches these sermons could not have a different agenda. Or reads that verse in the Bible and take away a different meaning than if you read it yourselves. God will direct and take you through His word.
I am always amazed that when sometimes when I read a verse in the Bible and then read the same verse a few days later there are times that God provides a different meaning for that same verse. I would guess that it all depends on what is going on in our lives at the time of the reading and where God is taking us– His will. We all need to read the Bible to get the most out it for each one of us. Never put blind faith in a man preaching a sermon– always verify it through your own reading. Putting blind faith in a man is sure way of being mislead.
PSALM 18:30:
AS FOR GOD HIS WAY IS BLAMELESS; THE WORD OF THE LORD TRIED; HE IS A SHIELD TO ALL WHO TAKE REFUGE IN HIM.
GO TO THE GOD THROUGH JESUS FOR HE IS THE ONE SURE THING YOU CAN HAVE COMPLETE TRUST IN.
